PRAMBANAN TEMPLE's STORY
Prambanan Is The Most Beautiful Hindust Temple In The World
Prambanan Temple is the amazing and the highest hindust temple in the world. It located in among Yogyakarta and Klaten. Why the temple called with Prambanan??? Because the temple located in Prambanan distric. Prambanan it's from word BRAMBANAN. Brambanan means with PARA BRAHMANA or Many Priest. And local people called with PRAMBANAN.
Prambanan park is about 86 ha. Beside Prambanan temple as the hindust temple, we can see three budist temple. They are Sewu Temple, Bubrah Temple, and Lumbung Temple. The park of Prambanan is very large. You can around Pramabanan with mini train.
Okay, we are going to Prambanan Temple. Prambanan Temple was built by Rakai Pikatan from Sanjaya Dinasty in 856 M. Noone knows how long Prambanan temple was built. 100 years after Prambanan built, Rakai Pikatan move his kingdom to East Java. And nobody watch the Prambanan temple after they moved to East Java.
In 1006 in Yogyakarta was earthquake and the temple was damage. Nobody don’t know about this temple after this because Prambanan covered by dust from Merapi Volcano too. Until someday in 1733, The Man from holland, COrnelis Antonius Lons found the ruin of this temple.
After that, Prambanan was renovated for :
1. In 1885 by Ijzerman (clean the dust in temple)
2. In 1902 by Van Erp (founder of trimurti temple)
3. Desember 23, 1953 (started to renuwal Siwa Temple)
4. In 1978 (Brahma Temple started to renuwal)
5. In 1982 (Wisnu Temple started to renuwal)
Prambanan Temple located 30 km from Merapi Volcano. It mades from LAVA STONE. And do you know why Prambanan built in that Place? Because in that place near with river. To make the temple we need stone, water, maybe some sand. It will easy we get if it was near with river. To make the temple it likes a lego (puzzle) and no semen here. Heem, it’s very amazing!!
Prambanan define for 3 Square. The Third square is about 390 x 390 m2 and no temple here. The second square is about 220 x 220 m2 and there are 224 temples but it was damage and just only 2 temples have renovated. Every priest have one temple to pray. The main square is about 110 x 110 m2. Long time ago, only the noble family could enter this square.
In the main square it was built 3 biggest temple as the symbol of trimurti. They are Brahma Temple, Siwa Temple, and Wisnu Temple. The highest temple is Siwa Temple as the symbol of the highest God in hindu. Siwa temple is in the center of this square. Siwa’s high is 47 meter or 154 feet. It has 4 room and 4 statues here. The main room is Siwa statue. Siwa is the God of Destroyer. Siwa destroy the evil to protect the human. Siwa as The god Of The God here.
The second room is Siwa as Agastya. The reincarnation of Siwa as the teacher for the human. The third room is Ganesha. Ganesh is the son of Siwa. Ganesh’s head likes elephant. He has long tail. And he brings the science bowl. It’s means that he always search the knowledge. Ganesha is symbol of knowledge. Local people believed that if we touch tail of Ganesh 3 times and put our hand in our head we will be clever. He..he..he.. You can try it. And the fourth room is Durga Mahesasuramardini or Famous with Rara Jongrang. She is wife of Siwa. She has 8 arms. 4 arms whose Durga and 4 arms whose Siwa when Durga battled with Mahesa (cow). Siwa gave his power to Durga from His arms. Local people believed that we touch durga for 3 times and put our hand in our face we will younger always and more beauty.
West of Siwa temple it was Brahma temple. It’s about 33 meter or 109 feet. Barahma is The God of Creator. Brahma statue has 4 faces means with 4 holly book in hindu “WEDA” and 4 elemen in the world (water, air, fire, earth) because he is a creator. He has 4 arms, it means that 4 direction (west, east, north, south). He brings the holly water in his left hand. It means that water is necessary in every element in the world. We can see the relief of Ramayana story here.
East of Siwa temple there was Wisnu temple. Wisnu is the God of Protector. He save the human from bad character and control the bad lust in the world. Wisnu is handsome man. Wisnu was reincarnation for many. The famous avatar of Wisnu are Rama and Kresna. We can see the Kresnayana Story in the relief on Wisnu temple.
In front of three biggest temple they are 3 wahana temples, Garuda Temple (eagle) in front of Wisnu Temple; Nandi temple (cow) in front of Siwa Temple; Angsa Temple (Swan) in front of Brahma. There are not a statue exept Nandi. In Nandi Temple we can see the Big Cow and the name is Nandi. Nandi Statue is still original. It was made from andesit stone. It’s about 1 ton. It is Very big Statue. Beside Nandi It stand 2 statue. They are Surya (The God of Sun) in left side of Nandi and Candra (The God of Moon) in right side of Nandi. Surya stand in the train and was pulled by seven horses. 7 horses mean with 7 days in 1 week. Candra stand in the train and was pulled by 10 horses. Ten horses mean with 10 month in 1 years in Java calendar.
Prambanan has the unic relief. And only Prambanan temple has it. It is the relief of Kalpataru tree. Kalpataru is the life tree. And beside kalpataru it is the lion and parrot. And the special one is the Kinara and Kinari. They are an angle. They have a human head and bird body. It means that in 9 century the people has the way to save the environment. For the government, today Kalpataru used to award. Someone who can save environment they will give kalpataru award from President Republic Indonesia.
After we finished our trip in Prambanan temple we can visit three budhist temple in north of Prambanan. See You Next time. Bye
